CONCEPT
This table is made of soft maple and has a mahogany stringer embedded down the middle. With this design, I was playing with the idea of infinity. I wanted the grains in the wood to not only flow together but to actually match. What does a table look like when its pattern is identical in the horizontal and the vertical? This creates the illusion that the sides have been folded, thus providing a smooth transition from the vertical to the horizontal plane and back again. The table is reinforced by a vertical piece of Soft Maple inset and glued to the underside of the tabletop and screwed to the sides. I capped the screws with Soft Maple pegs; the contrast against the Mahogany added visual interest to the spare aesthetic.
